Layover in Denver, Part 2

Denver:  standing in the airport and panting from exertion as I watch the jet-way separate from my flight to Seattle; joining the dejected travelers in the line at the customer service desk and finding that my arm is bleeding; dabbing my arm with the tissue provided by another traveler while I talk to the customer service agent…

Denver:  finding out that all flights to Seattle are full until the one tomorrow evening; finding out that the hotels are filled with Colorado Spring evacuees because of the wildfires; repressing an urge to hug the agent who finds a room for me (and a band-aid for my arm)…

Denver:  gasping with disbelief when smoke begins to pour from the engine of the hotel shuttle; waiting in lines…

Denver:  receiving two cookies at the front desk of the Doubletree instead of one; falling on a bed soft with puffy pillows…

Denver:  receiving an ice pack for my swollen ankles at dinner in the restaurant; a shower with water that comes out at exactly the right temperature without adjustments…

Denver:  finding out how “standby” works; seeing my name first on the standby list; finally walking into an airplane bound for Seattle…

Denver:  where everything goes wrong for me, but everyone is kind to me…

  1. Maybe you remember my story of getting stuck in Las Vegas and missing my fishing trip, two summers ago. It’s awful when airlines cannot keep their commitments.
I hope you are home safe and sound and resting comfortably.
