A Time for Everthing

“There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under Heaven”
Ecclesiastes 3:1

This morning as I sit at my breakfast table watching the tule fog lift off the pond’s surface, I can first see, then hear a small flock of American Wigeon Ducks.  They’re back!

On the Pacific flightway, they’ve made their anual stop in my little pond. Just think of the thousands of miles that they fly and every year about this time (check out my blog of nearly a year ago http://www.realestateforthebirds.com/american-wigeon-or-not.htm  ) they choose my little speck of a pond as their place to rest, refuel and mate.

Somehow it makes me feel small, but in a good comforting way. For no matter what is going on in my life, the beat goes on!  Solomon wrote the above quote in  935 B.C.  That’s three thousand years ago and he was making his observations about the three thousand years before that.

I take comfort in knowing that I’m part of that beat, “a time to be born and a time to die.”  I don’t have to solve every problem, win every battle, I can enjoy life with my “time to embrace” all of what life has to offer.

So I thank the small flock of ducks that greet me this day, choosing to share their world with me, “a time for peace.”
