A Philosophy for Success(ful Writing) from Mahatma Ghandi

Your BELIEFS become your THOUGHTS;
Your THOUGHTS become your WORDS;
Your WORDS become your ACTIONS;
Your ACTIONS become your HABITS;
Your HABITS become your VALUES;
Your VALUES become your DESTINY.

Please consider this as a formula for success for your writing as well! To write with these principles in the background, the foreground and in the very ground your writing emerges from.  How could it not provoke a reader to speak up, reach out, make contact, and engage you if so compelled?

  1. I love this, Deborah. Although I think that if someone is going to trip up, it will be a step three. WE were discussing the over at the Men with Pens blog the other day. One of the questions the blogger raised was: Bloggers, writers, those labeled as “thought leaders,” need to be sure they are walking the talk, acting on those thoughts and ideas they are recommending to others.

    That, I think, is the hardest part and where most of us are challenged, at least from what I see in the online world. And where your “authentic writing” becomes so important.

    I love the sequence. Not surprised it comes from Gandhi. Thanks for making me think. Again.

  2. Judy,

    Yes, we can easily trip up at Words being halted before they become Actions.

    And now you got ME thinking!

    Another simple set of mantras to apply to writing for me comes from the Four Agreements:

    Be Impeccable With Your Word.
    Don’t Take Anything Personally.
    Don’t Make Assumptions.
    Always Do Your Best.

    And there is apparently also a FIFTH Agreement:

    Be Skeptical.

    Wikipedia has a great synopsis…

    And I am now inspired (thanks to your comment) so stay tuned for what follows as I be my word and use this theme to make sense of why I champion writing for business or personal as I do…

    You make me think all the time too and for that I thank you wholeheartedly.
